The Adventure of the Cardboard Box (CARD)

On Christmas night of 2020, The Fourth Garrideb did a table read of Edith Meiser’s script of  “The Adventure of the Three Garridebs” as it was broadcast over the National Broadcasting Company’s airwaves on Christmas night of 1939 with the duo of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson.

Our thanks to the actors in this reading:

Sherlock Holmes – David Harnois

Dr. Watson – Charles Prepolec

John Garrideb – Steve Mason

Nathan Garrideb – Mike McSwiggin

Mrs. Hudson – Karen Wilson

Announcer (Knox Manning) – Greg Ruby

The original broadcast from 1939 has survived partially and you can listen to the surviving first half broadcast HERE. You can read about how this episode was delayed so that it could be broadcast on Christmas Day by reading this post.

And thanks to the generosity of Timothy J. Johnson, Curator of Special Collections & Rare Books / E. W. McDiarmid Curator of the Sherlock Holmes Collections at the University of Minnesota’s Andersen Library, we were able to use the orginal script by Edith Meiser and share with you here. Double click on the image and you’ll be able to download a .pdf file of the script.
