As often happens with modern day commemorative coins, specimens of the 2019 Sherlock Holmes 50 pence coins from the United Kingdom are now appearing on the secondary market with modifications made outside the Royal Mint.

There are now examples of this coin that are plated with 24 karat gold that are being sold in the $45-50 price range on online marketplaces such as Etsy.
