HolmeWork Assignment for August: An Aluminum Holmes Medal

“Each of these wore some scarf or medallion as emblem of his office.”

Our HolmeWork assignment for this month is an attempt to identify any information about an aluminum medal that features Sherlock Holmes.

The 65mm x 45 mm aluminum oval medal features a bust of Sherlock Holmes, in full deerstalker, cape and pipe facing right.  Below the bust are the words SHERLOCK HOLMES. There is a loop at the top of the medallion to allow it to be worn from a ribbon or chain.

Aluminum is a fairly soft metal, so my thinking is that this medallion was only designed to be worn occasionally and not daily wear.

Does anyone have any suggestion as to where this medal originates from, or any additional information?
