Commentary About Comments

In the last 8 months, we have had over 75 different comments and links to our various posts. Since our membership is spread out over 4 countries and 20 states, its unlikely that most of us will meet face-to-face to discuss our mutual interests and the various elements of the Canon.

That is why I value the comments features of our posts.  Since it is unlikely that we will meet, the comments feature allows us to share our thoughts and add to a discussion. The recent post on the Shylock medal that Spinks was offering in 1902 is an excellent example. Your editor was oblivious to the Shakespeare references and a few of you called me out and provided much more information on the topic.

Comments also allows your Editor to enjoy a few fleeting moments knowing that people are reading our posts here. I will admit to doing a little happy dance when a comment appears.  There – I said it.

Posts like Frank Mentzel’s Data! Data! Data! and Brad Keefauver’s The 17 Steps are ripe for discussion in my opinion, and a few of you have done so.  I hope more of you take the opportunity to engage in debate.

To those of you who have commented in the past, thank you very much.  I hope that I will be thanking more of you as we go forward.

One last item about comments… I use a software package to block out spam comments. The first time someone comments, that item is pending until I review it and approve the comment. After that initial review, all future comments from the same email addresses are automatically approved and immediately published.
