During the past year, we have published several items about challenge coins being issued with a Sherlock Holmes theme.  In this post we’ll share two challenge coins that have a borderline or fringe attachment to Sherlockiana.

First, almost a year ago, Robert Downey, Jr. (star of Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows) visited Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio as part of the promotion for the movie The Judge that was going to be released a few days later.  While on base, he was presented with a challenge coin from the airwomen and airmen there. Our second item is from the recent reunion of former crew members of the U.S.S. Savage. Our member, Peter E. Blau aka Black Peter, served on this ship in 1954-1955 and shared that a challenge coin was issued at their September reunion. The challenge coin is pictured below and if you click on the picture, you can find out ordering information for it. Just think, if you were to purchase one of these, you could challenge him at the next Sherlockian event you are both attending….
