1st Annual Meeting of The Fourth Garrideb – (l to r) Simpson, Meskan, Ruby, Sermersheim & Fritsch

The first annual meeting of The Fourth Garrideb on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 found 5 of the 7 founding members gathering at Gibson’s Steakhouse in Rosemont, Illinois to celebrate the past year with good food and fellowship.

Intended to be an informal gathering with no business, there were only two items on the agenda. First, there was an opening toast to Nathan Garrideb that was prepared by our Mycroft, Greg Ruby. At the close of the dinner, William Pavey Meskan gave a dramatic reading of Vincent Starrett’s poem 221B.

2015-08-12 13.41.35The highlight of the dinner was the arrival of our dessert – Gibson’s famous Macadamia Turtle Pie. The dessert in the picture was attacked by all 5 members in attendance  and there was still over half left that had to be taken home.

During dinner, the group was among the first to see our brand new club logo lapel pin AND our first club medal! (more on these in another post)

Earlier in the day, Bob Fritsch, the 7th Garrideb, gave a presentation – The Tools of Numismatics: Presenting Your Collections in the Money Talks Theater that was very well received by those attending.

Fritsch also had a unique handout during the show – an “elongated” wooden penny. Bob is a past president of both The Elongated Collectors and the International Order of Wooden Money Collectors.

2015-08-13 15.13.32On Thursday night, another founding TFG member, Al Raddi, was honored with his induction into the CONECA Hall of Fame for service to that group of error and variety collectors.  Congratulations to Al!
