HolmeWork Assignment: Fantasy Bank of England £1 Notes Featuring Holmes

“… hen you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth? “

– The Sign of the Four (SIGN)

For this HolmeWork assignment, we have no information on this fantasy Bank of England £1 banknote that prominently features a silhouette of Sherlock Holmes on the front of the note and a quote from The Sign of the Four.

We grabbed this photograph off of a Pinterest board with no data at all. No idea of the note’s dimensions.  The Sherlock Holmes silhouette has been used before on some commercially produced products.

We would welcome any information you may have!

  1. I was both pleased and surprised to find my note from Pinterest posted on your site asking for more information pertaining to it.

I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and a long time Numismatist. One of my collecting interest is everything related to the great man.

The note is one of three I produced in 2018 to be given out at a meeting of my coin club (The North Shore Numismatic Society, Vancouver, Canada).

The notes were printed on 24lb premium white paper using a HP inkjet printer. The note and design elements were copied from the internet.

The notes measures 85mm x 155mm. 60 notes were printed, 3 to a sheet, each individually hand cut.

Approx. 20 notes were given out at the 2018 meeting and I still have the remainder. I hope this solves the mystery of the One Pound Note, bring the HolmeWork assignment to a close.

P.S. I browse your site regularly and think it’s one of the best on the internet. I will be applying for membership shortly.

    Keep up the great work.
    E.S.
