The Iconic London Numisproof Collection’s 221b Baker Street Medal

“… near the museum …”

– The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle (BLUE)

Between 2012 and 2014, the Numisproof Collection issued a series of 18 designs that it called its Iconic London Collection, with each medal being plated in 24 karat gold.

Designs included in the series included: British Museum, Leicester Square, Greenwich Observatory, London Zoo, The Gherkin, Baker Street, HMS Belfast,  Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, Piccadilly Circus, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, St Paul’s Cathedral, Covent Garden, Carnaby Street, The London Eye, The Tower Of London and the Houses of Parliament. Each medal in this series had the same common reverse design.

Each medal was accompanied by it own all-important certificiate of authenticiy and were housed in trays in special collecion boxes.

OBVERSE: (front faciing view of the Sherlock Holmes Museum [in enamelled finish] / (view of the London skyline {in gold-plate]

REVERSE: HERITAS, TRADITIO, LEGATVM  [Heritage, Tradition, Legacy] / (heraldi shield, topped by a crown, within a laurel wreath)

50mm, 24 karate gold plate on a unknown base medal, Round, 44 grams

Each design was limited to 19,500 pieces struck but it appears mintages never came close to thoes numbers. The Buckingham Palace medal had 2,000 struck, St. Pau Cathedral, and hte HMS Belfasthad mintages of 500. The other medals in the serie were limite to 250 medals struck. Currrenty, this series is no longer being promoted for retail sales, which appeared to have been limited to Europe only.
