An Annotated Copy of the May 9, 1913 Sotheby’s Auction of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Coin Collection
“Now and again I drive down to Sotheby‘s …”
– The Adventure of The Three Garridebs (3GAR)
A few weeks back, we published a post illustrating the three pages of the 22 lots of coins from the Arthur Conan Doyle collection, that was auctioned on May 9, 1913. Thanks to Dr. Ted V. Buttrey of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, we now have scans of an annotated copy of the sale. These scans show the name of who purchased the lot and the hammer price that the lot sold for.
There is a slight issue with the scan for page 12 as the first column showing the Pounds purchase price was cut off accidently. Dr. Buttrey was able to supply us with the prices. Below, we have the lot number followed by Pounds / Shillings / Pence.
Heading 264 / 12 / 6
Lot 75: 1 / 1 / –
Lot 76: 1 / 5 / –
