Your editor is of the age that he grew up with the television show Sesame Street when it first started on Public Broadcasting stations in the late 1960’s. Oscar the Grouch was my favorite character, but I do remember seeing a “Sherlock Holmes-like” character from time to time.

That character would be Sherlock Hemlock, who was voiced by puppeteer Jerry Nelson. Sesame Street  did a parody of PBS’ Mystery series called Mysterious Theatre, which was hosted by the character Vincent Twice, Vincent Twice. Hemlock was in every episode of these parodies, assisted by a dog named Watson.

In 2014, Sesame Workshop, the production company for Sesame Street, did a licensing agreement with Card.com to produce over 50 prepaid debit cards with likenesses of characters from the show. Sherlock Hemlock would be featured on two debit cards. These cards can see be ordered today by clicking HERE and searching for SESAME STREET.

Both of the Sherlock Hemlock debit cards have a green background for the design. The first card has the darker background of the two and features a photograph of the Sherlock Hemlock puppet, with the Sesame street logo to the left. The second card, with a lighter green background, features a cartoon rendering of Sherlock Hemlock and the Sesame Street logo is to the right.

Below is a clip of a Sesame Street Mysterious Theater segment – The Case of the Missing Toast.
