A Scion Society of The Baker Street Irregulars
A Check Signed by Alice Faulkner, aka Actress Carol Dempster
“… unless she is a most consummate actress …”
– The Adventure of The Cardboard Box (CARD)
Carol Dempster was a silent film actress who appeared in 19 movies between 1915 and 1926. All but one of her films were directed by D. W. Griffith, who she was romantically engaged with during the 1920’s. The other film was directed Albert Parker and was Sherlock Holmes that starred John Barrymore. Dempster married banker Edwin S. Larsen in 1929. Upon her death in 1991, her estate left $1.6 million to the San Diego Museum of Art.
Many check collectors collect checks of movie stars for their autographs. Imagine collecting checks of actors who have portrayed Holmes — Barrymore, Rathbone, Cushing, Heston, to name a few.
You can check out Dempster’s performance as April Faulkner, and Barrymore, in Sherlock Holmes below.
