“… we have lots of Government detectives…”

– A Study In Scarlet (STUD)

Anchorage PD Challenge Coin #3

Earlier this year, we reported that the Anchorage Police Department had issued two different challenge coins that featured Sherlock Holmes in the designs. The Anchorage Police Department has now issued a third challenge coin that features Holmes, with a mintage of 500 coins.

OBVERSE: ANCHORAGE POLICE / (Anchorage Detectives Patch over a crossed M4 Carbine rifle and a short barreled Remington 870 rifle with headlight) / DETECTIVES

REVERSE: A SMALL GROUP / (Anchorage Police Badge over crossed rifles) / WITH A HUGE CASE LOAD

Oval, 44mm, Enamel

Anchorage PD Challenge Coin #3 Spelling Error

Unfortunately, the quality of the detective’s patch design has deteriorated over the three coins as it appears they using copies of the original design.

In addition, on the oval challenge coin, the word DETECTIVE is misspelled on the detective’s patch.  As shown in the picture above, they have it spelled as DETECCTIVE. I reached out to Dave Koch, a member of the Anchorage Police Department, who has commissioned many of the challenge coins for the department.  He was not aware of the spelling error until I pointed it out to him.

For those interested in purchasing this and the two earlier APD challenge coins (as well as other APD challenge coins that don’t feature Holmes), they can be purchased at this website.
