Virtual Run/Walk Offering Sherlock Medals
“He walked for a couple of miles…”
– A Study in Scarlet (STUD)
A group called Sherlock Run For Galgos is currently offering a limited number of medals to participants in a virtual walk/run designed to raise money to assist in the care of Spanish greyhounds.
Galgos are a Spanish greyhound. These dogs are used for racing, and after their careers are over, they are not considered pet-worthy in Spain. These dogs are often killed or are abandoned. Proceeds from the medals sales will benefit two charities helping these animals – Galgos Del Sol and SOS Galgos – based in Spain.
The medals feature a design of the door of 221B Baker Street with a silhouette of the Benedict Cumberbatch character from BBC’s Sherlock series. The cost is $30 each and you have to complete a walk or run of either 2.21 miles, 22.1 kilometers or 22.1 miles. Once the walk/run is complete, you send in proof of completing the distance and your medal is send off to you.
The medal is identical for all three distances, but the ribbon is a different color for each distance. The 2.21 mile ribbon is blue, the 22.1 kilometer ribbon is black and the 22.1 mile ribbon is gray. The ribbons say “Sherlock Run * 2.21 miles * 22.1 kilometers * 22.1 miles.”
As long as medals are available, the race will be taking place. You have a few weeks to complete your distance. Registration will close when they sell out of registration slots. They purchased 250 medals – 60 of the 2.21 milers, 95 of the 22.1 k’s and 95 of the 22.1 milers. Once they are sold out, the medals will not be reordered.
As this post is being written, the 2.21 mile race is sold out and not available. Twenty-two medals remain available for the 22.1 kilometers race and 15 medals remain for the 22.1 miles option.
Your editor has signed up for one of the race options and once we complete the walk and receive the medal, we will provide a more accurate description of the medal in a future post.
For those interested in possibly ordering one of the these medals and learning more of the details of the virtual race/walk, details can be found here.
This virtual run was a fun idea to raise money for a good cause. If all 250 medals are earned, the run will gross $7500. I registered for the 22.1 kilomenter and have completed the distance.I sent my proof in this morning. Thanks for bringing this race to the group’s attention.
